Think about it for a moment…how do you read the newspaper? First thing you do is scan the HEADLINES until you see one that grabs you. Next you read the sub-headline. If you’re still interested, you’ll read the first paragraph.

We all do it. We stay on auto-pilot until a headline reaches out and grabs us by the throat.

The Headline Needs To Paint A Vivid Mental Picture.

In discussing the importance of a headline, Bruce Barton a well-known advertising guru told how the results of one ad were dramatically increased:

  • Old headline: “John Smith made $110,000 the first year writing motion picture scenarios.”

  • New headline: “John Smith sold his first motion picture scenario for $9,000 one month after completing this course.”

The new headline drew enormously more. The explanation was easy…making $9,000 in one month after completing a course is much more vivid than making $110,000 a year after writing motion picture scenarios. That small psychological difference could make or break your marketing campaign.

Interrupt Them…then Engage Them.

Well, sure, if you have $500 million to spend creating your brand, you can get a lot of mileage out of repetition and creativity.
